To ensure we can assist you to the best of our ability, we require certain information and measurements.
Tips for identifying and ordering PTP
V-Pulleys
Information required for identification:
- Is there a part number or brand on the pulley?
- Diameter of the pulley?
- Cross section (top width x depth of a V groove)?
- How many V grooves does the pulley have?
- If machined, what is the bore and keyway size? Are there any grub screws?
- Or is the pulley taper bored for use with a taper bush?
V-Belts
Information required for identification:
- Is there a part number or brand on the belt?
- Cross section (top width x depth)?
- The inside length in mm?
- Plain wrapped profile or raw edged cogged (teeth)?
- Colour?
How to measure V-belts
- Using a white marker or chalk piece, mark a line on the outside of – and all the way across – the width of the belt.
- Using a flexible tape measure, line up the end of the tape where the measurements begin with the line you marked on the belt.
- Wrap the measuring tape around the belt until it meets the mark. Keep it flush with the surface of the belt, ensuring there aren’t any folds or creases that could skew your measurement. Continue wrapping the tape measure until it meets the other end.
- Use your index finger to mark where the tape meets the mark and then remove it. The point where they meet is the size of the pulley belt.
Roller Chain
Information required for identification:
- Part number or brand on the belt
- Pitch of the chain (the distance between the centre of the pin to the centre of the next pin)
- Distance between the inside plates
- The roller diameter
- Single row (simplex), double row (duplex) or triple row (triplex) of chain strands
- Surface finish or material
How to determine the pitch of a chain
- What is ‘pitch’?
Chain size is commonly referred to as Pitch. Chain size is determined by the chain pitch. Pitch refers to the measurement from one roller-pin centre to the next roller pin centre of a given chain.
- If you have the sprocket and require the chain size:
Use callipers to measure between the teeth of the sprocket. Measure from centre to centre of where the chain roller would set between the teeth that will give you the pitch. Once you’ve determined the pitch you can then determine what chain size you will need.
- If you have the chain and need the chain size:
Couplings
Information required for identification:
- Part number or brand on the coupling?
- Is there a rubber tyre or rubber insert fitted to the coupling?
- What is the outside diameter?
- If machined, what is the bore and keyway size? Any grub screws?
- Or is the coupling taper bored for a use with a taper bush?
Taper Bushes
Information required for identification:
- Part number or brand on taper bush?
- What is the largest outside diameter?
- What is the depth of the taper bush?
- What is the required bore and keyway size?
